Re: 'whore,' the NNE (and elsewhere I guess) slang "frig" as a surrogate for "," I believe comes from a bastardisation of Frig/Frigga. Just as in some Germanic languages '' isn't a wholly dirty word, but with Christianisation of Europe and Normanisation of England, the Pagan roots of our language were buried in false pieties.
